"Semi-Transparency"
Sample Images

The images below illustrate the concept of semi-tranparency.  We define a semi-tranparent subject to be a subject which has two or more depth levels which are populated in the same general region (overlapped).   Stereo vision is often helpful when viewing semi-transparent subjects.

The stereocards below have enough resolution to print 4x6 cards.   You have permission to print a personal copy at a photo lab however, you may not sell or redistribute the images.

Quartz
This is a semi-tranparent quartz crystal photographed in 3D.  In stereo vision, both the front and rear surfaces of the crystal can be distinguished wheras in mono vision, the front and rear surfaces are blended together.
Dogs
Here two dogs are photographed through a semi-transparent fence in 3D.   Notice that the concept of semi-transparency has been generalized to include opaque materials that form a semi-transparent structure (the air in the fence is the transparent part.)
Grass
Next, are images of three types of semi-transparent grass.   Two of the images can be considered examples of camouflage as well as semi-transparency.   Try looking at the images in 2D and 3D to see the effects of camouflage verses stereo vision.
